TROJANS REPEAT AS CIAA BASEBALL CHAMPIONS WITH 14-7 WIN OVER SAINT AUGUSTINE'S
Virginia State Captures 24th CIAA Baseball Crown

April 19, 2008

PETERSBURG, VA- The Virginia State University Trojans captured their second consecutive CIAA Baseball Championship with a 14-7 win over Saint Augustine's College Saturday afternoon at Whaley Colbert Field.

This is the 24th CIAA Baseball Championship in school's history. Trojan junior short stop Michael Knight was named the Tournament's MVP.

The Falcons committed six errors in the seven run loss.

After the Falcons scored the game's first two runs in the top of the first inning, the Trojans proceeded to brutalize the Falcons pitching rotation for nine combined runs in the second and third innings. The SAC coaching staff had to exhaust three pitchers by the bottom of the third inning to end the onslaught from which they would never recover. The momentum clearly favored the Trojans on Saturday afternoon as they held the Falcons scoreless with the exception of a run in the top of the 7th and three meaningless scores in the top of the 9th courtesy of 3-RBI triple by Joseph Pierce.

Senior pitcher Haneef Hill, who was also named to the All-Tournament Team, went the distance striking out three.
