TROJANS, FALCONS SET TO BATTLE FOR CIAA BASEBALL CROWN

Championship Game Will Begin at 1:00pm on Virginia State Campus

PETERSBURG, VA- The Virginia State Trojans and Saint Augustine's Falcons will play for the 2008 CIAA Baseball Championship tomorrow at Whaley Colbert Field on the campus of Virginia State University.

The Trojans earned their berth the Finals with a 10-8 victory over Elizabeth City State in the winner's bracket Friday. Virginia State trailed the entire contest before scoring three runs in the bottom of the 8th inning. Michael Knight came up big for the Trojans by going 3-4 including 2 home runs, 5 RBI and 2 runs scored.

For the second day, the Saint Augustine's Falcons used 11 innings to defeat their opponent, this time the Elizabeth City State Vikings, 7-6. With the game knotted at 6 in the bottom of the 11th Joseph Pierce's two-out RBI single scored Josh Bishop to propel the Falcons to a tournament rematch with VSU.

The Falcons took three of four regular season games from the Trojans but lost on the baseball tournament's opening day to VSU 12-5. The Trojans will be looking for their second straight championship while the Falcons will have to defeat VSU twice tomorrow in the double-elimination tournament to capture their first baseball crown since 1999.
