Softball and Baseball Players and Rookies of the Year UnVeiled at Championship Socials

Petersburg, VA...The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association's
2007 Softball and Baseball Players and Rookies of the Year were
announced at their respective socials this afternoon.
Before a crowd of anxious and excited student-athletes, the 2007
CIAA Softball Player of the Year, Tiffany Toney,
accepted her award of top honor. This Abilene, Texas native
is a junior Shortstop for the Lady Bulldogs of Bowie State
University. Toney bats a .520 average, logged 50 runs scored,
8 triples and 88 total bases.
CIAA Rookie of the Year, Michelle Ishida of North
Carolina Central University is a first-year Utility player with the
Lady Eagles. Ishida of San Gabriel, California connected on
43 hits, 40 RBI's and leads the conference in doubles with 16.
CIAA Baseball honors Meshaw Taylor a Junior,
Shortstop from Charlotte, NC as the 2007 Baseball Player of the
Year. Taylor of Elizabeth City State University, bats a .446
and ranks highly in the conference in hits with 54. He also
finished the regular season with 39 RBI's and leads the conference
in doubles with 18.
Shortstop, Justin Goodson, rounds out the special
group of four this evening as he enters the CIAA Baseball
Championship as Rookie of the Year. Goodson, a North Carolina
Central University Eagle, and Atlanta, GA native, bats a .381,
registered 43 hits, 36 RBI's and 17 stolen bases.
The Baseball and Softball Championship Tournament begins at 10:00am
and 12:00pm respectively.
Baseball will be played on the campus of Virginia State
University.
Softball will begin at the Petersburg Sports Complex and will move
to Virginia State University on Friday.
